THE MILLERS, AT STRAHOV, TOGETHER...

April 12 - June 30, 2024

He's from Kladno, she's a native of Prague. They spent their entire life together – until 2011, when the brilliant artist Zdeněk Miler passed away – in their villa in Hodkovičky, but their shared love was for the Strahov Monastery...

From April 11th of this year until the beginning of the summer holidays, here in the spaces of the Strahov Monastery, their dream is coming true - a joint exhibition.

For the first time, Emilie Milerová is showing the public a collection of ink paintings and calligraphy, which she created at a time when her husband fell seriously ill, and she escaped from her normal work duties for two hours a day into the world of her own creation, inspired by the works of old Chinese masters.

Zdeněk Miler undoubtedly achieved his artistic immortality with the enchanting fairytale character Krtek, which literally grew up with several generations of children not only in the Czech Republic but his other works are also well known? The first film by Miler, made at the world-famous Jiří Trnka Studio, "The Millionaire Who Wanted to Steal the Sun," was black and white, and it's hard to believe what artistic transformations its creator achieved. During the exhibition, screenings of Miler's favorite film, "Sametka," are a timeless fairytale whose philosophy the author accepted and loved...

The unique film loop from the visit of the American astronaut A. Feustel to Z. Miler in the hospital in Nová Ves pod Pleší is a touching meeting of those who literally propelled Krtek into space with their work. Emilie Milerová's canvases – "Homage to Strahov," "Milevsko Monastery," and others – are a testament to her naive art, which she has been creating since 2021 in Dobříš, where she has moved, and where she exhibits with her husband in the castle gallery Oranžerie. A film "Life According to Emily" is screened here about all these life journeys and attitudes.
