The collection of glass negatives, originally created for commissioned photographic work as well as personal interest, was later supplemented by a series of glass slides—many of which are commercial thematic sets used for catechetical and educational purposes. The collection contains several thousand items. As part of Call No. 0241/2022: Digitization of Cultural Assets and National Cultural Monuments I, under the National Recovery Plan – an initiative for the Digitization of the Cultural and Creative Sector (coordinated by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, Department of Museums and Galleries), the project "Digitization of the Glass Photography Collection" (Project Registration No. 0342000082) was submitted. During 2024, 2,500 selected items were digitized. The user interface is accessible here.
Researchers can look forward to unique images capturing life in the first half of the 20th century, views of Prague, and photographs from other locations in the Czech Republic and abroad. In addition to digitization, the project also included an inventory of the collection and its proper, preservation-friendly storage.
This database, which contains a portion of the digitized collection of the Premonstratensian Monastery at Strahov, was made possible thanks to funding from the state budget of the Czech Republic for the year 2024.
